‘Palm Sunday teaches us that the true king comes not with armies, but with love and humility’
As we enter Holy Week we are presented with a summary or trailer to the great Triduum celebration, and yet we remain at this point only bystanders crying out ‘Hosanna’ or ‘Crucify Him’
We are at the periphery of the action, we observe it, but we don’t participate in it. Only later as we begin the Triduum are we to truly participate in the action.
And yet Palm Sunday presents to us a warning, a warning that points to us the fickleness of our faith-whereby we can turn to Jesus on the one hand and reject on the other. The late Pope Francis warned: ‘Let us not be like the crowd that waved palms one day and shouted ‘Crucify Him’ a few days later.’
As we enter Holy Week as we soak in the trailer, let us accept that wonderful invitation to literally enter the greatest story and as we prepare for the Paschal Mystery (Easter) spend out time with Jesus.
Please keep in your prayers all those who will be received into Full Communion with the Church at the Easter Vigil.
