Today in the Gospel, we begin 3 weeks of reflecting upon seeds as Jesus uses a number of parables to explain faith and the Kingdom of God. In today’s Gospel we are reminded that a successful harvest is dependant upon the environment on which the seed falls. Only if the seed falls upon fertile soil will a harvest be produced. The seed is vulnerable and fragile, and may not come to growth at all, especially, if the soil is hostile or lifeless. Jesus is of course the seed we discover in the Gospel. God is careless or generous in how He sows, and we are environment in which the seed grows. We create the environment, in our lives that will receive the seed of faith, the seed of Christ. We and our families are the soil in which our Catholic faith is born-will it thrive or will it die?
The environment we create can choke and kill that little vulnerable seed, or enable it to thrive and grow in our lives and be shared with others.
Let us create the fertile soil for Jesus to grow in our lives.
